Warning: DON’T HIT BACK!

The hitting back discussion came up in my class last week as it does every year. It is shocking how many children are encouraged to hit back if someone hits them. My question is “Is that really the best parents have to offer their children?” As parents, we’re supposed to be setting our children up for success. Success is above average. It doesn’t look like everyone else. It stands out! Parents need to realize giving advice like “hit back” encourages children to look for trouble. If you look for it, you probably will find it.

God has called us to have a higher standard in every area of our lives including parenting.  Let’s give our children advice that will sustain them now, through the teenage years, and on into adult hood.  The “hit back” advice will land a child in jail once they become adults.

Ephesians 6:4

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger by the way you treat them. Rather, bring them up with the discipline and instruction that comes from the Lord.

Of course, we don’t want our children to be cowards or anything close to it.  However, we can teach them how to go to adults and then to us if they’re being bothered.  At that point, we can model the correct Godly way to handle a difficult situation.  Our faith doesn’t always make sense, and the earlier a child learns that the better.  However, the return it yields is amazing.

I just had this situation happen today with Genesis at school. I was truly upset with him because he started a fight with a young boy after this boy pushed him. He tells me he asked the guy did he push him and the boy responded, Yes, I did and they continue to argue until Genesis was sent to the office and received ISS. I was so mad at him because I teach him that if someone hits, push, and pick at you tell the teacher. If the teacher doesn’t do anything about it tell the principal and if he doesn’t take care of it let me know and we will get this handle. As, a result of Genesis getting in trouble and fight I took him to the word of God. Ephesians 6:12
“Our fight is not with people. It is against the leaders and the powers and the spirits of darkness in this world. It is against the demon world that works in the heavens.” He is learning this verse first hand know because he has to write it over and over until he gets.
