School Supplies!

Back-to-School Supplies:

Most parents pride themselves in equipping their children with everything they will need for the beginning of a new school year and rightfully so.  As a teacher, I appreciate the parents that go the extra mile.  Most parents grab the school supply list purchase everything needed (and a lot that is not).  They, myself included, check the list, and like Santa most of us check it twice.  We want our child to be prepared.  Truth be told, there is nothing cuter than a first day of school student from the fresh hair do right down to the crisp white tennis shoes topped off with a freshly packed back pack.

But now that all the school supplies are taken care of, what about the “real” supplies that many parents forget about?  I’m not talking about crayons, markers, glue, pencils, and the list goes on and on.

I’m referring to a few supplies that your child really needs in preparation for the upcoming school year:

1)      Respect others at all times.

2)      Do things the first time you’re asked by a teacher or school employee

3)      Always follow a request with please and/or thank you

4)      Don’t complain

5)      Let your light shine

6)      Rely on Jesus all the time especially the tough times

7)      Stand out

If we take all the energy used towards making sure our children look good on the outside, and put it towards glamorizing their insides, this will be the best year you’ve ever experienced.  All this begins with a relationship with Christ.  Regardless of your child’s age, use the beginning of this school year to start to develop your child’s relationship with Jesus.  Daily devotionals will assist in this greatly!  (They make them for all age ranges.)

Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)

Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it.

This is a great school “supply list”. Often times we remember the pencils and paper but forget the golden rule. Great job!
