Clean Yo’ House! (Fall Cleaning?)

I always found it funny (not really) how you could spend literal days cleaning a house and in two weeks it’s right back to it’s original state.  When does the change first occur?  Is it on laundry day or after a big meal and there are a lot of dishes left?  Regardless, there is no one I know who has cleaned their house one time and never had to clean it again.

My own home seems to always be a wreck.  I wish I could be one of those people who say, “It’s not dirty.  I just need to put stuff back in it’s right place.”  Mine is actually dirty.  As we speak, there is a banana stain on my kitchen floor and I can not muster up the energy to get it up.  I do try, but for every stain I clean, five more appear somewhere else.  Last week, I was giving myself the “you-really-need-to-clean-your-house-today pep talk,” and in my mind all I could think of was what is the use?  Why keep trying and trying and there is no apparent difference?

Having that type attitude even for a split second was ridiculous of me.  Am I really going to stop cleaning my house FOREVER because it doesn’t stay clean?  The more I thought about it the more ludicrous it sounded.  I have to clean my house on a regular basis or I  (and my family) will take on an unpleasant odor.  Have you ever met someone who has lived in filth so long they don’t even realize they have an odor?  That is what I don’t want, but with that prior thinking on cleaning, that is where I would be headed.

My Christian walk is 10,000 times more important than rather I have a clean house or not.  I’ve got to make sure my heart (Jesus’ house) stays clean.  I need to tidy up daily, see what needs to be picked up, and what stains need to be removed.  Like my home, my heart is exposed to a lot of “mess” through out the day.  After a while of no cleaning, my heart can also take on a lingering, unpleasant odor.  That is not what I want or need to live a successful life that is pleasing to God.  I want my heart to look like those homes in the magazine – everything in place and in order.  When Jesus returns, I want him to be pleased with the way my “house” looks.

Psalms 51:10Create in me a clean heart, O God.  Renew a loyal spirit within me.

You reminded me of a scripture I think about when I’m not feeling that clean.

Jesus said, “Sanctify them by your truth. Your word is truth.”. Sanctify “means to cleanse or set apart for sacred use; to make holy” And he plainly told us his word is truth. So he’s saying clean them with your word Father. And it does exactly that.

We can be cleaned by taking in the word of God.

My scripture that has been in my hearts for week now and I have been reading it everyday is (Psalms 51:10) Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me. My ears had become a place where people wanted to deposit their trash and I found myself in a state of judging people in the church because of want i had been told. I found myself hurting spiritually, but then I realize I need to be more concern about my house, so then I begin to ask God to create a clean heart within me. Now with a clean heart and a renewed Spirit, I can now love people unconditionally!
