Finishing Strong

Stop for a moment and think of the worst thing you’ve ever gone through?  I’m sure responses probably run the gamut.  Reason being is we all go through issues and situations in life.  My worst moment in life would be having my baby girl twelve weeks early.  To begin with, I didn’t understand why it happened to me.  Then I was faced with if my child would live or die, and if she lived, would there be long term damage.  Basically, it was a waiting a game, and one I didn’t want to play.

During this time, my emotions were all over the place.  Only because of my faith in God and the power of His word, did I survive.  My baby is now two and a half and right on schedule.  I truly am thankful.

It’s not always easy to feel strong during turbulent times.  Sometimes it’s easier to lie in bed and wait for the storm to pass, but that’s not what God wants for us.  He has a better strategy, and the formula is found in James 5:10-11 (Message).

10-11Take the old prophets as your mentors. They put up with anything, went through everything, and never once quit, all the time honoring God. What a gift life is to those who stay the course! You’ve heard, of course, of Job’s staying power, and you know how God brought it all together for him at the end. That’s because God cares, cares right down to the last detail.

So our job is to:

1.  Put up with anything

2.  Go through everything

3.  Never quit

4.  Honor God

In my mind, these are some crucial keys to finishing strong in life.  Regardless what stumbling blocks come, nothing is too big for my GOD!  We have to remember what the closing of verse 11 states – God cares right down to the last detail!

This is so true!!! I just wanted to say as you know I have had my share of “times” in my life, but I am realizing now that all along God had plans for me that had I not gone through those trials I would not be where I am today. If you want to go deeper into what Jesus really wants from us I really really recommend reading “Radical” by David Platt. My spirit is wanting so much more from me now more than ever and this book has really changed my perception on the way we are as Christians. We should resemble Christ (and we think we do) but somewhere along the way instead of resembling Christ we have made Christ resemble us and this book really shows that and I would have never realized it. Thanks for that scripture, I haven’t read that before :).

I find number one to be the most difficult. My problem is that I want to fix everything and everyone, and I know I cant. Lord, help me to have an enduring attitude. Thanks for this.
